General Service Information

We provide expert smoke alarm installation services across Glasgow, Paisley, and surrounding areas. Our team ensures that your home fully complies with Scotland’s updated fire safety regulations (effective February 2022), offering quick, clean, and professional service—often in just 45 minutes.

Yes. As of February 2022, all homes in Scotland are required to have interlinked smoke and heat alarms. This means if one alarm goes off, all alarms will sound. The goal is to improve fire safety and give occupants more time to escape in an emergency.

Non-compliance could affect your home insurance and your household's safety. The law requires interlinked alarms throughout your property. We make it easy by handling everything—from assessment to installation and certification—so you meet legal requirements with zero hassle.

Our team includes seasoned professionals, such as retired fire officers and experienced installers who understand safety regulations inside out. You’ll always speak directly with knowledgeable staff, not salespeople.

A typical installation takes about 30–60 minutes, depending on the size of your home and the number of alarms needed. Larger properties may take longer.

No. We use non-invasive methods wherever possible. For battery-operated alarms, no drilling is required, and for mains-wired systems, any minor work is done neatly and professionally.

Yes. We offer wireless interlinked alarms, which are perfect for properties without loft or attic access. These require no complex wiring.

Installation & Equipment

We install Scottish Government-compliant, radio-interlinked smoke and heat alarms. These do not require disruptive wiring, are easy to maintain, and include long-life sealed batteries. We also install carbon monoxide detectors and optional remote control units.

According to the Scottish Government’s legislation, you need:

  • One smoke alarm in the living room (or the room you use most).

  • One smoke alarm in every hallway or landing.

  • One heat alarm in the kitchen.

  • If you have a carbon-fuelled appliance (e.g., boiler, fireplace), you also need a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the same room.

All alarms must be interlinked and either sealed battery units or mains-wired with a battery backup.

Yes. We safely remove and disconnect old alarms, making any wiring safe. This service is offered at a modest extra cost.

Only light maintenance is needed—just vacuum periodically to remove dust and test the units regularly. The sealed batteries last the full life of the device.

Yes, wireless interlinked smoke alarms (usually sealed 10-year battery units) are designed for DIY installation and don’t require an electrician. However, if you’re installing mains-wired alarms, it’s recommended or required to use a qualified electrician to ensure safety and compliance.

Wired interlinked alarms are connected via electrical cabling and are typically mains-powered with a battery backup. Installation usually requires an electrician.

Wireless interlinked alarms connect via radio frequency and are powered by sealed long-life lithium batteries. They are easier and cheaper to install, especially in existing homes.

Both types are compliant if they meet BS EN standards and are properly installed.

Interlinked Smoke Alarms

Interlinked smoke alarms are alarms that communicate with each other wirelessly or through wiring. When one alarm detects smoke or fire, all alarms in the system sound simultaneously. This ensures you’re alerted no matter where you are in the property.

Yes. In Scotland, for example, all homes are now required to have interlinked smoke and heat alarms as per the latest fire safety legislation. Requirements can vary by region, so it’s important to check your local regulations or speak to a professional.

You can interlink smoke alarms, heat alarms, and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms depending on the system you choose. Wireless interlinked systems are a popular choice for existing homes as they don’t require rewiring.

Yes. Landlords in Scotland are legally required to ensure that their properties meet the new interlinked alarm standards. This includes private landlords and housing associations. Non-compliance can affect their legal standing and insurance coverage.

In most cases, yes. There are wireless interlinked systems available that can be retrofitted with minimal disruption. A professional installer can assess your current setup and recommend the best upgrade path.

Most council and housing association homes have been upgraded to meet the standard, but not all. Tenants should check with their housing provider to confirm. If the alarms are not compliant, the housing provider is responsible for upgrading them.

Certification, Quotes & Pricing

Yes. We issue a Certificate of Compliance on the same day of installation. This is suitable for insurance, legal, and home sale purposes.

Yes. We install fully interlinked, radio-connected smoke and heat alarms that comply with the Scottish Government regulations (updated February 2022). We use only government-approved equipment, installed by experts.

Home & Property Concerns

Yes. Landlords and short-term let owners (including Airbnb hosts) are legally required to install interlinked alarms that meet Scottish regulations.

We offer discreet installation options that respect historical and conservation features, using battery-operated alarms that don’t damage walls or ceilings.

We can assess your existing alarms and either:

  • Integrate compatible models into a new system
  • Or replace outdated or non-compliant alarms as needed

Legal & Compliance Clarifications

While there are no direct fines (as of now), non-compliance may affect your insurance coverage, and you may fail a home report or property sale inspection.

Yes, many insurers require that homes meet the legal fire safety standards. Failure to comply could void your policy or reduce payout in the event of a claim.

Yes—working alarms are not enough. They must be interlinked to comply with current Scottish law. Simply having alarms that beep is no longer sufficient.

Yes. The law applies to all homes, whether owner-occupied, rented, or social housing. The requirement became law in February 2022, and all homes should now be compliant.

Absolutely. If your property is not compliant, it may fail a home report, delay a property sale, or be unrentable. Ensuring compliance now helps avoid costly delays later.

 Look for alarms marked with:

  • BS EN14604 for smoke alarms
  • BS 5446-2 for heat alarms
  • And check if they are interlinked (either wired or wireless).
If unsure, we can inspect your existing setup and confirm compliance.

Accessibility & Safety Concerns

Yes. We can install alarms with strobe lights and vibrating pads for those with hearing impairments. Just let us know your needs when you book.

Yes. Many modern alarms have visual indicators and quieter warning signals, and some even send alerts to your phone. We only install high-quality alarms with low false-alarm and low-beep features.

Yes. Many models we install have a remote test button, or can be tested using a wireless controller or app, making it easy and safe to test alarms without climbing.

Yes. Some of the wireless systems we install can connect to your smartphone or tablet, providing real-time alerts even when you’re not at home—ideal for frequent travellers or carers.

Yes. The alarms we install meet strict safety and sound level standards. We place them carefully to avoid being disruptive while still offering maximum protection for your whole family.
